The initiative recognizes that violence takes many forms, including cyber violence, political violence, economic violence, and violence at the workplace and home, all of which affect diverse feminist groups differently. Recognizing the increase in Technology-Facilitated Violence Against Women and Girls and gendered disinformation, as well as online violence as a continuum of existing structural physical-world violence, the project strives to equip feminist partners with skills, knowledge, and open-source digital safety and data protection resources needed to address these threats and continue their vital work in digital spaces. 

 

The project also actively connects grassroots feminists across East Africa with local support mechanisms through contextualized and tailored mentorship guided by African feminist cybersecurity experts, facilitating trusted, practical, and sustainable solutions to the digital safety and data protection challenges they encounter in both their work and everyday lives. Through this in-person mentorship, partner organizations were able to institutionalize digital safety by creating an organizational digital safety protocol and incident reporting mechanisms, as well as ensuring their teams are well-trained and mentored on digital safety and data protection.
