Network
The FemPeaceEA Network is made up of grassroots feminist groups in Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya. These organizations and team members are experts in their own right, making an impact in their communities across various geographies. We recognize grassroots African feminists as critical actors in laying the path towards peace and security in their communities, on the frontlines of movements building transformative and sustainable peace.
Bukooli Health Initiative & Women’s Rights (BHIWR)
A feminist community organization in Uganda focused on health, capacity building, and advocacy for women’s legal rights and marginalized groups.
A grassroots queer community creating safe and supportive spaces for Lesbian, Bisexual, Queer, and Gender Non-Conforming women in Kenya
A grassroots organization led by young women and adolescent girls in the Kibera informal settlements, founded by survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. FPRJC exists for the realization of a society free from all forms of gender-based discrimination, and they drive their change agenda by focusing on women’s health rights and well-being, women’s leadership & governance and women’s climate action and livelihood development.
Golden Centre for Women’s Rights Uganda (GCWR-Uganda)
A feminist organisation founded by and for women sex workers in 2018, advancing health, human rights, and economic justice for women sex workers in rural and peri-urban Uganda.
Gorzo
A movement to empower women, Gorzo is a youth-led, grassroots feminist organization advocating for women’s rights through digital platforms and educational spaces. It focuses on creating inclusive spaces where women can participate freely and visibly in public discourse by shaping conversations, challenging norms, and expanding women’s presence and meaningful participation.
Healing Hearts
A grassroots, women-led feminist organization in Kiambu County, founded in 2021, that exists to create safe and inclusive spaces while amplifying the voices of young girls and women in all their diversities. The organization addresses sexual and gender-based violence and femicide, while also responding to socio-economic challenges and limited access to mental health and sexual and reproductive health services.
Nile Girls Forum (NGF)
Founded in 2018 in Uganda’s West Nile sub-region in Northern Uganda, NGF co-creates solutions and platforms for girls, women and youth to contribute to sustainable peace and development through Gender Transformative Education, Sexual & Reproductive Health and Peace Building & Conflict Resolution.
A women-led and board-governed local civil society organization legally registered under the Tigray justice bureau in May 15, 2023 and re-registered under ACSO in July 24, 2024 with registration number 7352 to operate in Tigray and Afar regions of Ethiopia. Founded by two visionary women, Rise and Shine aims to promote gender equality and enhance the economic, social, political and legal empowerment of women and girls.
Umbrella For the Needy
Founded in November 2020 and legally registered in May 2021, this is an Ethiopian local NGO that provides humanitarian aid and community development support for vulnerable populations, with a particular focus on GBV survivors, pregnant and lactating women, children, and persons with disabilities.
Women Peace Initiatives Uganda (WOPI-U)
A grassroots feminist organization formed in 2003, focusing on gender equality and women’s empowerment through peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and community mediation.
